Since this is a new forum, the requirements are slightly more relaxed; however, there are still requirements that must be met.
- Join the forum, and the first thing you want to do is study the rules. Take them to memory for future reference. Why would you need to do this? It's the first step in your preperation. If you are to enforce the rules, you must know them. It's hard to enforce the rules if you do not know and understand them.
- Understand the ideas of the community. Make sure you know what you're getting into before you apply for a staff position. You don't want to assist something that does not interest you, or you do not like. You must also know what you're talking about. Staff members must be knowledgeable about the topics they overlook.
- Get to know the members and administration. This is a key step in being a staff member. You must acknowledge all ideas put forth and express your opinion on them. Your opinions must be heard, for it is the only way to obtain your voice. You must get to know the leaders of the community as well as it's population. Your name, as well as your power, must be known by the entire community.
- Get to know the forum software. This is not only highly recommended, but it's required. The more you know about the software, the more you can do to help the current staff. I can not rely on a staff member that is unable to use forum software or is confused by it. I can not expect you to be an expert, especially on the administration portion, of the forum software; but, you most know the basic ins-and-outs of it.
- Work, work, work. Posting is a key part in being a staff member. This does not mean spamming the forum endlessly attempting to up your post count; it means raising your voice on subjects, and teaching others in different situations. You must decide when someone is breaking the rules and take affirmative action.
- Sentence structure and typing. Make sure you teach yourself how to type. I am not asking you to use perfect grammar, but it doesn't hurt to use a comma here and capitalize a proper noun there. Using good grammar will make you look and sound more professional as well as making your statements easier to understand. As a staff member, you want your point to get across. Utilizing good grammar will assist you in conveying your opinions and ideas.
